General Rules
Additional Players:

If a team is ahead by 4 goals, then the other team can add one additional field player. The additional player will be taken off the field if his/her team scores. If a team is ahead 6 or more goals, then an additional player will be added. If a team is 8 or more goals ahead, then an additional player will be added. If the losing team does not have additional players, then the winning team should consider taking a player off the field.

NO Cherry Picking!

Copper Mountain Soccer has had it brought to their attention that in more than one game and more than one team have allowed/ taught their players to stand on or near the goal line ( and in some cases behind the goal keeper) of the opposing team throughout the game in order to "cherry-pick" goals from the other team.

While Copper Mountain does not enforce an offside rule at the recreation soccer level in most age groups because it is a more difficult concept for those new to the game to understand, it is important that coaches are trying to teach the rules of the game and respect the proper play of the game.  To ensure this, we are implementing a new rule to prevent players from being allowed to play in an off-sides position.

Going forward, it will be the discretion of either coach to ask the referee and/ or for the referee themselves to ask any player who is in an offside position to move back to a "reasonable distance".  Reasonable distance will be defined as the offensive player moving back to an on-sides position when asked and a reminder to maintain a position within a couple of feet of the opposing teams defenders.  If the defenders move away from the goal, the  opposing teams offensive players must also move with them.  Any continued infringement of this rule will result in the whistle being blown and an offside call being made.  If at any time either coach asks the referee, the referee must oblige their request and move the player/ players back to insure fair play of the game.

The importance of this decision is so that fair play can be achieved and that the players will learn the proper rules and play of the game.  Forwards need to learn how to work with their teammates to move the ball up the field, not simply receive the ball and shoot.  Defenders need to learn how to support each other and intercept the oncoming attack, not simply sit back and wait to try to stop a shot.  Coaches need to help their players learn that proper fundamentals and team play are more valuable than scoring and winning.

If you have already taught this to your players, then this new change will not effect you.  If you have not yet explained/ taught this concept to your team then  we ask that you take a few minutes before your next game to go over this as it is being implemented effective immediately.

Reminders:
Shin guards must always be worn.  Broken legs DO happen!

Soccer cleats or tennis shoes are acceptable.  Football, baseball, or any other boot with a toe cleat is not acceptable.

Games MUST be started and ended on time.  If the first game is five minutes late, the last game will be 30+ minutes late.  5 minutes before the next game begins, the subsequent game players have the right to enter the field for warmup on the goals.

Parents must be seated on opposite sides of the field.

Please be patient with the volunteer referees.  This is not a competition league.  We cannot find nor pay for professional referees.

Game Rescheduling

It has always been our Club's policy that the game goes on UNLESS lightning is present. Field closures due to weather will be posted and head coaches will be notified by email.  Coaches or referees will typically make the call to cancel a game due to adverse weather conditions. If you decide to cancel the game, you must contact the opposing coach. Reschedules will not be accommodated due to a no-show.  If your game is officiated by our referees, you will need to request a reschedule 3-5 days prior to the originally scheduled game start date.  All reschedules should adhere to the following procedures:

  1. Contact the opposing coach to determine two mutually suitable dates for the rescheduled game.

  2. Contact Ted at ted@coppermountainsoccer.com to determine if a field is available and to get the field reserved for the new date.

  3. If applicable, Ted will notify the referee coordinator to reschedule the referees.

  4. Both coaches will be notified once the game is officially rescheduled.

Free Kicks:

Are classified under “direct” or “indirect” the same as 11-A-Side soccer.

Procedures for taking a free kick are about the same as 11-A-Side soccer, except when the free kick is taken, all of the opposing players shall be 16 feet from the ball.

Penalty kicks:

A penalty kick shall be taken from the penalty mark (24 feet). Same rules, procedures and technicalities as 11-A-Side soccer. Goal keeper on the line, distance of players to the ball, touches of the ball by a player, extension of time at half time, and at the end of the game, etc.

Goal clearance (NO GOAL KICKS)

·         Ball going off the field of play for a goal clearance is the same as 11-a-side soccer for goal kicks.

·         The goal clearance is taken by a goalkeeper anywhere inside of his own penalty area. The ball is put back into play from the goalkeepers hands.

·         The ball shall be deemed in play as soon as it has been passed outside the penalty area.

·         The goal clearance is deemed to be correct when the ball has been touched by another player outside of the penalty area, or when it has touched within the respective goal keeper’s own half of the field. The players of the opposing team shall remain outside the penalty area until the ball has been thrown beyond the penalty area

Individual tactical functional play

It is important that the coach makes his/her players understand offensive and defensive movements and responsibilities at every position. Because the field is smaller and there are fewer players, all players should be trained to be “two-way” players, participating fully in both attack and defense.

Individual player positions and responsibilities:

Goalkeeper: The only player, who can use his hands, provided he is in his own penalty area. His main responsibility is to stop shots, breakaways, and to stop the ball from going into the goal. He/she may also participate in the attack through his/her distribution or as a support field player.

Defenders: The role of a 6-A-Side defender is:

To stop the other team’s forwards from scoring

To contribute to the attack with accurate passing and shooting

To make creative, penetrating runs
